What if you could work through your problems and dreams in a creative, therapeutic approach that integrates your whole self, is unique to you, and utilizes your own resources?
If you are someone who is tired of talking about the pain that you have gone through, or don't know how to put it into words, and want to see results through a transformative process, Heart Times might be what you have been searching for!
We specialize in utilizing Expressive Arts Therapy to transform and break through the areas in your life that have become fragmented or dormant.
Through a creative, right-side-of-the-brain approach, we help you connect the dots and gain clarity through life transitions and problems.
Sharing your vulnerability through a non-verbal process can allow you to feel safer to deal with the concerns at hand.
Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths through counselling or coaching.
We achieve this by providing a safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.
Our goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
An Introduction into Heart Times from our Founder Shelaine Grant, MSW, BSW, RSW
'I have known Shelaine for almost 10 years. Shelaine approaches her clients with a strength and resiliency-based perspective, focusing on the goals of each individual as seen from their lens.
Shelaine radiates a creative energy that is contagious – drawing out of her clients the confidence to tackle any challenge or roadblock.
Besides the core counselling theories and tools, Shelaine uses the expressive arts to help clients face particularly difficult situations within a creative framework that engages the senses.
Having worked with children, teens, adults and families, Shelaine brings a deep understanding of the importance of family and community work to her practice.
On a personal level, Shelaine enjoys travelling, playing and writing music, and spending time in nature. Shelaine embraces life, while appreciating the importance of balance in her life.
I highly recommend Shelaine as a professional who demonstrates both genuine integrity and sincere compassion in both her private and professional life.'
'Shelaine approaches people - whether it be clients, family, friends or strangers - from a heart-centred place.
Upon meeting her, you will immediately feel her genuine warmth. She begins from a place of curiosity, and proceeds with compassion, understanding and non-judgement.
As a practitioner, she can masterfully integrate her skills in social work, psychology, and Expressive Arts Therapy, to care for and support the whole person in amidst life's challenges.
Shelaine is a beacon of light and a calming presence during hard times, bearing witness to whatever it is you might be going through.
We all need help sometimes - Shelaine will walk alongside you compassionately, using creativity as an opportunity for a fresh start."
'I know Shelaine's clinical work well, from being her teammate for several years.
Shelaine is an amazing clinician. She is a kind and empathic listener, a skilled therapist, and has a soothing, calm presence at all times, no matter whom she is working with or what emotions come up.
She has a strong sense of ethics and professionalism.
I see her professionally as like the large, steady, solidly rooted tree - the kind of tree that if you needed to take refuge or find safety in a storm, you would be and feel safe finding shelter under.'
'Deeply compassionate and skilled practitioner.'
'Shelaine brings warmth, passion, and many years of expertise with her into the therapeutic space. Highly recommended.'
'Shelaine brings joy to the therapeutic space! She is conscientious and well-informed and a safe person to embark on a healing journey with.'
'I have known Shelaine for over 4 years as my colleague at an inpatient setting for children and youth.
Shelaine is professional, dependable, and kind. She conveys genuineness and warmth in her therapeutic interactions with children, youth and families.
She dives into her work, whether it’s individual therapy with youth or family focused emotional work with parents and caregivers.
Shelaine has an amazing ability to ensure individuals are seen and heard as she supports them on their mental health journey.'

I acknowledge that I am an uninvited guest on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, known as Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, and Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke, and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Malahat, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) Nations. I acknowledge the forced removal and genocide of the Indigenous people of this territory. I recognize ongoing colonialism, racism, and structural violence against Indigenous people. This land acknowledgement is intended to communicate my continual efforts to actively reflect, recognize, reconcile, and partner with these Nations whose lands and water we benefit from today. I am grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and for those who have gone before us. I make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory I have the privilege to live, work, and play.
